Well first of all I got this for an extra HDD that I had laying around from a PS3. It took me awhile to figure out how to get it to work with my PS3. Maybe anybody else trying to do the same thing I did with it will benefit from my little review. First of all I have 64-bit Windows 7 on my laptop and it recognized everything right when I plugged it in to the USB. My biggest problem was trying to figure out how to format the 60GB HDD to FAT32. Windows 7 can only format NTFS and exFAT. The first thing you should do is Google free programs that allow you to format large HDD’s to FAT32. I have these programs Partition Wizard 5.0 and FAT32format on my laptop but I can’t remember which one did not work. But you will easily be able to tell once you connect the device to your PS3 and if you don’t see USB Device come up on your XMB under Videos, Music, or Pictures then you know it didn’t work. Other than that the USB ports and Memory Card Reader work right off the back. This was a big feature of why I got this particular Docking Station. Because as I hope all of you know the new Slim PS3’s no longer have the memory card reader and the extra 2 USB ports will come in handy. The fact that you can use a 2.5″ or 3.5″ HDD with this is awesome too. So I would highly recommend this product to anyone who needs an easy way to get use out of an extra HDD laying around and for anyone who is looking for something to use with the PS3.

eSATA Interface Problems – SillyConVal –
Soon after receiving this docking station, I tested it and found that the USB and eSATA interfaces worked correctly with a 2.5″ drive, so I put it aside for a month because I had no immediate use for it. The next time I tried to use it (shortly after the 30-day Amazon return period had expired) I found that the eSATA interface was no longer functional. In addition it made Windows 7 unable to shut down and I had to do a restore in order to get Windows working again.

UPDATE: I have since discovered that the problem was not with the docking station, but with the SATA drivers on my computer. To get the eSATA interface on this device to work with my computer, I had to change the SATA mode in my computer’s BIOS from ATA to AHCI. Before changing the BIOS settings however, I had to make changes to the Windows registry which are shown in Microsoft Knowledge Base article KB922976.

When this arrived it appeared to be a re-ship of a return. It had clearly been opened and it was non-functional, DOA (dead on arrival). Due to personal travel outside the country, we weren’t able to return it within Amazon’s 30 day window (no argument with that, it’s a reasonable return policy).

Works better in SATA that USB – J. Demaree –
This works great especially if you connect it using the SATA port. This make the drive hot swappable. Using the USB port I need to reboot to get it to see the drive. It still work and this is what I needed it for it’s just nicer if you have SATA.

Logic3 i-Station Dock and Speaker Station for iPod Review

I have owned these speakers for 4 years now, and I’m still pleased with my purchase. When I got them, they were a little pricey (by today’s standards) but were affordable at the time.
I used them at my desk for a couple of years and was able to turn them down so low that my cube-farm mates were not disturbed. They are not the kind of speakers that you buy for filling a room with thundering bass, but their response range at low to medium levels is quite good.
Another great feature of these is that when the iPod is docked, it’s being charged (when using the AC adapter, not on battery power)
These are not available new anymore, but a couple of places offer them used at a fraction of the original price…might be a good deal!

Interrupted music – Edwin Post – Denver, CO
Initially I liked this station a lot, but after a few months it started “zoning out” — it stopped sound output for a few seconds then picked it back up. This only happened occasionally at first, but recently it’s been every couple of minutes. Using the remote to change the volume immediately brings the sound back. I’ve given up on it, got a Logitech.

I’ve had my i-Station for 3 years now. I use it mostly at work, so keep the volume low. But I’ve taken it home and cranked it up and the sound is wonderful for its size and price. Never had a single problem with it and from the others I’ve seen, this is the best for the money.

Thermaltake BlacX Duet USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive ST0014U Review

Its easy to use and pretty handy… however not a performace option. The multiplier issue is a BIG one and a marketing SNAFU! Totally misleading on its actual peak performance. Main issue is also the drives overheating. I turn my drives on and off upon intent/ need of use… and im sure others will just leave on. Im not a complete tech guy but know that overheating pretty much wears and tears any electronic component down! a add on option of usb fans could compensate.. but on its own its hard to keep a worry free temperature on the drives…
so why the 4 stars? cause it gives me access to up to 4 TB on data on 2 drives… transfer speeds on usb 2 drives are manageable and NOT UBER but good enough for MY needs. No esata for both drives support.. maybe future products will fix this.

Solid device, can’t be beat for the price. – Martin1980 –
Product works as advertised, simple plug and play of drives, new ones will need to be initialized first in most cases, though this is adequately described in the instructions on how to do this in Windows. I also have a motherboard which does not allow for ESATA port replication and can only use it with one drive over ESATA but USB2 is fine for general data storage, which is what I’m using this for.

Great solution to a bargain NAS if you have a PC that is on all the time already (as my media center is). Setup takes 5 minutes tops even with drive initialization.

This review is more to say how much I appreciate Amazon’s return processing. I had already bought the single drive version of this docking station. I liked it so much that I went back for the dual drive version. I received it on Friday and hooked it up and plugged in couple of drives. It died after a couple of hours. I got on Amazon’s site and went through the return process. They made it incredibly easy to return the faulty one and shipped the replacement out that same night. That was late Friday night and I had the replacement Monday — no additional charge.

That kind of service sure offsets the inconvenience of having to return a defective part.

Me? I’m buying stock in Amazon.

This is exactly what I was looking for. The eSata is fast. If you have the right SATA controller (like a Silicon Image Sil3132 chipset-based controller) you can “see” both drives separately in Windows 7. USB 2.0 works fine but is not as fast. There is supposedly a new version coming out with USB 3.0 that will level the speed between both connections. The only “flaw” for me is the inability to power the individual drives when not in use. The power button has 2 lights but turns the power to both drives off when depressed. Not a problem but I can see where sometimes this would be helpful.
